Frosting Ingredients
- 1 cup unsalted butter (softened)
- 1 cup brown sugar (packed)
- 1/4 cup milk
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup all-purpose flour (heat-treated)
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup mini chocolate chips
Instructions
- Beat Butter and Sugar: In a large bowl, beat the softened butter and packed brown sugar together until the mixture is light and creamy, ensuring a smooth base for the frosting.
- Add Milk and Vanilla: Pour in the milk and vanilla extract, mixing thoroughly until the batter becomes smooth and well combined.
- Incorporate Powdered Sugar: Gradually add the powdered sugar to the mixture, beating continuously to maintain a fluffy texture without lumps.
- Mix in Heat-Treated Flour and Salt: Add the heat-treated flour and salt, then beat the mixture until it’s fluffy and fully combined, making sure the flour is evenly incorporated.
- Fold in Chocolate Chips: Gently fold the mini chocolate chips into the frosting to distribute them evenly without deflating the fluffy mixture.
- Use or Store: Use the frosting immediately to frost your favorite cupcakes, cakes, brownies, or cookies. Alternatively, store the frosting covered in the refrigerator until ready to use.
Notes
- Heat-treat flour by microwaving it in a bowl for 1–2 minutes or baking at 350°F (175°C) on a sheet for 5 minutes to kill bacteria. Allow it to cool completely before using.
- For a smoother texture, pulse the brown sugar in a food processor before mixing to break up any clumps.
- Store leftover frosting in an airtight container in the refrigerator and bring to room temperature before using again.
- This frosting is best used within a few days for optimal freshness and flavor.
